Ames Iowa District Wants Their Money

Published

on

In the La Crosse School District, people owe about $6500 in past due lunch accounts. In Ames Iowa, that total is around $96 thousand. And Ames is 2 thousand students smaller then La Crosse.

The districts Chief Financial Officer, Karen Shimp says if an incomplete application comes in for free and reduced lunch, or never shows up at all……the bills start piling up.

Shimp says unpaid lunch totals for Ames were $38 thousand dollars nine years ago. That total has grown by more than double in the intervening years. To the point now that some accounts have been turned over to collection agencies.
