Bridge Renovation Leads to Donations
The new path of the Winona Bridge required that MnDOT purchase properties on the route. Contractors have been demolishing the properties, including the Americ Inn Hotel. Project Manager Terry Ward says quite a bit of things were left behind once they sale went though.
Through Environmental Management Systems, a contractor working on the project, donations on behalf of MnDOT were made to Winona area non profit organizations. THey received donations of household furniture, fixtures, bedding and other items that were put to use to aid these organizations in Winona and elsewhere.
The $162 million project involves building a new bridge in Winona and repairing the existing historic bridge.
