Man Could See Prison for Fatal Overdose

Prison time is possible for a La Crosse man scheduled to be sentenced today for contributing to another person’s drug death. Jered Hellerud is awaiting sentencing for delivering heroin to Robert Gordon of Trempealeau two summers ago. Gordon had taken other drugs along with the heroin from Hellerud just before he died, so investigators couldn’t prove that his death was directly due to heroin. The drug transaction happened at a gas station on French Island. Hellerud’s girlfriend is serving prison time for the heroin-related death of another Trempealeau County man.
