Big Dollar Development at Center of Town, City Debate
At stake with a vote this week by the La Crosse city hall: 12 million dollars of development just outside city limits in the town of Shelby. The city council can deny the development. Obviously with that in mind, the Shelby town board has agreed in principle on an agreement to help pay for city services. But the planned development is worth it for the town. And the La Crosse school district, says Shelby town chair, Tim Candahl. He says the tax revenue from the development will less the tax burden throughout the area.
The state gives cities like La Crosse zoning jurisdiction over areas within three miles of city limits. Just like the planned Willow Heights subdivision in Shelby.
