Man Killed on Highway by Falling Tree
A freak accident over the weekend killed a man from West Salem. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 50 year old Wayne Burkhardt was killed when a tree fell from a bluff and hit the windshield of his pickup.
Burkhardt’s 51 year old wife Carla and 16 year old daughter, Carlie, were also hurt and taken to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
The family was southbound on Highway 26, near the intersection with Neumann Road when the tree fell.
