Bomb Squad Detonates Pipe Bomb in Sparta

Sparta Police Chief David Kuderer said that over the weekend there were four separate incidents involving suspicious minor explosions in the city which likely were from fireworks, so didn’t want to take any chances on what was found Monday morning. Kuderer said that around 8:00 a.m., a garbage man found a pipe bomb in front of a home on Julie Avenue. After notifying police, several homes near the device were evacuated as a precaution.A bomb squad robot shot the end of the device off so they could look inside the tube. Their investigation continues into the incident. No injuries were reported.
