Local Banker Frustrated with Nation’s Debt
Not that it’s completely unexpected, but new numbers on the nation’s growing debt bring condemnation this week. On the national stage. And locally. Bruce Zmolek is president of Firefighters Credit Union in La Crosse. He’s stunned by the new debt predictions for the nation. Just bad policy, says Zmolek, because every government operates better with less debt and America’s debt just keeps growing.
The Congressional Budget Office this week projects the nation’s overall debt–something around 20 trillion dollars now–to increase to more than a hundred percent of the nation’s GDP in the next 25 years due to higher anticipate expenditures for health care and an aging population.
