First celebration of its kind in La Crosse. But it won’t be the last. Juneteenth in Saturday in Copeland Park in La Crosse. At some point, during the day-long celebration, pretty large crowds. Pretty thin at other times. But they’ll be back for another shot at the commemorative event next year, says city council member and Juneteenth organizer, Dempsey Miller who says he’s fully committed to the event as something that will occur annually. Juneteenth is a 150 year-old event that’s meant to commemorate the emancipation of slaves in the US.
