Suddenly, Overtime Changes the New Black
The president isn’t the only one calling for expanded overtime pay. President Obama apparently will make increased eligibility for overtime a cornerstone of his talk today in La Crosse. Democratic state senator Julie Lassa, meanwhile, has introduced a bill that would do the same thing in Wisconsin. The president’s plan calls for increasing the income limit for overtime to over fifty thousand dollars. Which is what Lassa’s bill would do. The senator from Stevens Point says Wisconsin’s overtime laws are so out of date, many occupations making more than nine thousand dollars a year aren’t eligible for overtime under state law.
