The Legislature’s budget committee held a public hearing Monday to discuss funding a new Milwaukee Bucks arena. While that was going on, the Bucks held a press conference to release details of the team holding training camp at UW-Madison this fall.

Among the speakers who were asked about the Bucks arena funding proposal, Badger Basketball Head Coach, Bo Ryan who suggested the franchise means more to the city than sports.  It’s also a way to highlight Milwaukee as a destination every time a Bucks basketball game is aired.

Current owners and former owner Herb Kohl would contribute $250 million to a new arena and a proposal asks the state and taxpayers to fund the rest. Both Ryan and Athletic Director Barry Alvarez said that the Bucks need to stay in Wisconsin.
