Bandshell needs makeover
City waiting for transfer of property
It’s been on the drawing board for several years, and it’s still a project that La Crosse’s park director wants to do.
A remodeling of the Riverside Park bandshell is awaiting some transfer of property, according to La Crosse Parks and Recreation director Steve Carlyon.
At a city plan commission hearing Tuesday, he responded to a comment on the future of the bandshell, built over 80 years ago.
Local music teacher and conductor Alex Vaver told the commission that the platform is “inadequate” for performing groups.
One recent plan for a new bandshell called for a larger stage area and new seating to replace the park benches at the current shell.
