Fire at La Crosse landfill

Operation should be back to normal by day’s end

No damage or injuries but, apparently, plenty of fire at the La Crosse County landfill this morning. 

Firefighters were called out to the Hwy. 16 site around 5 a.m., because of smoke and flames. 

Landfill director Hank Koch tells WIZM the fire was brought under control quickly, and that the landfill operation will be back to normal by the end of the day.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk."
