Farm owners inspired to protect land permanently
A family in Western Wisconsin has essentially exercised the anti-mine option. After getting inspired by another farm nearby getting permanently protected from development by the Mississippi Valley Conservancy in La Crosse, the Drangstveit family in Blair has formally entered a voluntary conservation agreement with the organization to do the same with their 120 acre farm.
The farm is surrounded by frac sand mining activity and is in a county with the highest concentration of frac sand mining permits in the country. Partly why the Drangstveit’s wanted to conserve the farm permanently. But also to give refuge to many of the migratory songbirds and other wildlife that may get displaced by all of the mining.
