Given the choice, city would still pick roundabout
Just say ‘no’ to roundabouts. New legislation in Madison would allow cities and towns in Wisconsin to do just that: Tell the DOT ‘no’ when the agency plans a roundabout for the municipality.
La Crosse city council member Audrey Kader says it wouldn’t have mattered to her for the roundabout planned in her district at Seventh and Cass. It will be perfect, she says, for that very dangerous intersection. Despite what critics might say. She says there are often those who don’t have an open mind towards improvements. Just like when the roundabout was installed on Sand Lake Road in Onalaska. Lots of naysayers then, too, says Kader.
The Seventh and Cass roundabout is planned for construction in 2017 and will cost about $700 thousand. That’s in addition to the $900 thousand in DOT money the city has spent to buy properties in the way of the new, rounder intersection.
