Seniors group looks for comprehensive Social Security plan
A comment by Wisconsin governor Scott Walker relating to raising the retirement age for Social Security has raised some eyebrows this week. In an offhand way, Walker suggested an increase in the retirement age might be one of the things to look at in terms of securing the long term health of the federal entitlement program.
But Wisconsin state director of the AARP, Sam Wilson says he’ll wait for complete plans from Walker and all the other presidential candidates before deciding if any of those plans have merit. He says, for the next 20 years, the Social Security trust fund is on solid footing. But long term plans need to be made.
Wilson says the best plans for Social Security are the ones that are comprehensive in scope and start to deal with changes to that program now.
Walker’s comments on Social Security came during a republican presidential candidate forum this week in New Hampshire.
