Onalaska mayor floats idea of city administrator
Onalaska will be voting again for a mayor next year and the current mayor thinks it’s time for the city to ponder whether an administrator would be better. Joe Chilsen admits that maybe he’s thinking himself out of a job. But he feels the idea should be examined by the Onalaska city council. Chilsen says having a city administrator has positives and negatives and the council should at least have the opportunity to discuss the idea.
Part of Chilsen’s reasoning is that electing a mayor opens the risk of changing the city’s CEO every four to eight years…instead of having a more permanent administrator. Chilsen says he hasn’t decided yet whether to seek a second term as mayor.
