Water expert concerned sludge spill in Colorado could happen on Mississippi

A massive waste water spill in Colorado that has turned a river orange has local river experts worrying whether that could happen to the Mississippi, or other waters around La Crosse. UW La Crosse biology professor Roger Haro has big concerns about how that spill happened, as the government was inspecting a gold mine. Haro is preparing to host river specialists from around the world at a symposium in La Crosse later this month. The conference at the La Crosse Center follows similar international meetings in China in 2013, and in Berlin four years ago.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
