Homeowners in floodplain could get cash

City money could also be given to help families move 

Some of the millions of dollars La Crosse could spend on capital projects next year ought to be spent to help homeowners living in the floodplain.

City council member Andrea Richmond is making that suggestion. 

During a meeting on the capital improvement budget yesterday, Richmond said 100s of homes in her northside district are prone to flooding and could use the city’s help in avoiding it. 

Richmond says city money could be given to families that actually want to move somewhere else. She asked to have some funding that’s earmarked for future years moved back into the capital budget for 2016.
