Name released of victim from Friday’s shooting in La Crosse
George Miller was gunned down in streets on southside
Police have identified the victim in Friday morning’s shooting on the southside of La Crosse.
Central High School student, 17-year-old, George V. Miller was gunned down on the 1300 block of Redfield St. around 10 a.m.
About 12 hours later, after a five-hour standoff, police arrested suspect, 18-year-old Deshawn Randall, just a few blocks from where the murder took place.
Police had evacuated a one-block area around a Denton St. apartment Friday night, after following up on leads that he may be hiding there.
After attempts to negotiate with Randall failed, police say Emergency Response Team members entered the apartment building and found Randall alone.
Investigators say Randall had been hiding in that apartment since about three hours after the shooting. He’s expected to be charged with first-degree intentional homicide when he appears in court Monday.
This was the sixth shooting in La Crosse in eight days. The first intentional homicide in two years.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Miller family.
