Grant paying for extra enforcement for pedestrians

Leading to more drug arrests, like Monday

It’s not as if La Crosse police are trying to create an illegal drugs dragnet while working under a grant that pays for extra enforcement of pedestrian laws. 

Things just sometimes work out that way. 

Like Monday, when cops pulled over a car that had failed to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk at West Ave. and Vine St. Two people in the car took off running. 

Police found one of them minutes later and made an arrest on outstanding warrants. Two others stayed in the car and were arrested on drug charges.

The city uses state DOT grants to conduct its extra enforcement operations for pedestrians.  Several more special grant enforcements are planned for this fall.
