Lawmaker wants keep kids out of tanning beds
Minimum age is currently 16
MADISON, Wis. – With a well-established link between tanning and skin cancer, one Wisconsin lawmaker wants to keep kids out of tanning beds.
State senator Fred Risser has proposed raising the minimum age to hit the tanning salon. Currently it’s 16. Risser’s proposal would push that to 18.
One way to keep kids from developing melanoma early, he said. The other way, he told WIZM, is for them to stay out of the sun, too.
A recent report from the CDC finds substantially increased risk for developing melanoma for those under the age of 35 who have had frequent exposure to ultraviolet rays.
