Paving begins on key La Crosse streets
Paving is beginning on Second street in downtown La Crosse this morning. Crews are putting down the first layer of asphalt on the section of the street closed since early June.
Repairs to the street’s surface and replacement of curb and gutter follows replacement of utilities below the street. It’s been complications with those repairs that have prolonged the project for a couple of extra weeks. Xcel had unplanned repairs it had to make to its gas main that runs down Second. A major utilities junction also needed unplanned work at the intersection of Vine and State.
The paving should be complete, striping in place, and the street back open to traffic, the city says, by the end of next week.
