Man sped away on State St., Saturday afternoon

He led police on a high-speed chase near downtown Saturday afternoon that landed him in court Monday.

Police ran Markus Chandler’s plates, knowing he had an outstanding warrant, as he passed them on State St. At a red light, the cops pulled behind the 23-year-old, turned on the emergency lights, got out, knocked on his car window and demanded he get out of the vehicle.

Chandler “freaked out,” he said later, and took off.

He went left on Fourth St., then a right down Vine St., running two stop signs, as police pursued. About a half-mile down the road, Chandler took off on foot. Witnesses in the area led police to his whereabouts, and he was caught in an alley. Charged with more than just an outstanding warrant, including possession of meth, marijuana, drugs without a prescription, drug paraphernalia, not to mention everything that comes with fleeing from police at a high rate of speed.
