Local group offering scholarships for houses to certain families in La Crosse

Build a house, get a scholarship.  That’s a promise, the La Crosse Promise, actually.

It’s a community development plan that will also provide money for young people in certain neighborhoods to attend college.  

Jerilyn Dinsmoor, the executive director of La Crosse Promise, says several lots have been set aside in the target neighborhoods for families to buy to build new homes. 

A family will have to stay in the house at least four years, for the kids to qualify for scholarship funds of up to $50,000. There are seven lots available right now, priced anywhere from $5,000-7,000.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
