King named Wisconsin teacher of year

Faculty kept it a surprised, honored teacher at assembly as crowd roared

Holmen High School staff were surprised. The students were surprised, and Roger King had no idea it was coming.

The longtime teacher was named Wisconsin’s High School Teacher of the Year during an assembly at Holmen High on Friday. 

State School Superintendent Tony Evers made the announcement, as students and faculty roared with applause. King has been teaching agri-science at Holmen since the 1980s.

The award includes a three thousand dollar prize from the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
