Logan students could build first self-driving car
Car would navigate between two Trane Co. plants
The next really functional self-driving car may not come from Uber. Or Google. Or even Apple. It might, however, come from the northside of La Crosse.
La Crosse school district announced Thursday a program in which Logan High School students will work in conjunction with Ingersoll Rand Inc. and Trane Company to build a self-navigating vehicle that will be used in the city.
Students will design, program and build the car so that it can travel on its own between Trane plants 4 and 7.
The plan is for the vehicle to use lasers, radar and GPS to help it move along without any human input. The vehicle will be also partially powered with solar energy.
