Commission will look at barriers and discrimination issues for African-Americans

African-Americans and the challenges they face will be part of the inaugural meeting of La Crosse’s new Human Rights Commission.

A community listening session will be at the Black River Beach house Wednesday evening. The Commission will consider barriers to African-Americans and discrimination issues at the hearing.

The plan is to have similar community listening sessions every couple of months that deal with discrimination issues for other groups.

The Human Rights Commission replaces the city’s former Equal Opportunities Commission and was created to address larger issues of discrimination in the city.
