Group thinks Burke may have allowed priest abuse go unpunished

A Catholic group is calling on the Pope to investigate former La Crosse Bishop Raymond Burke.

The Catholic Whistleblowers organization wants to see whether he permitted priest abuse to go unpunished while he was bishop in La Crosse and St. Louis.

Burke was bishop of the La Crosse Diocese for nine years.

The group also wants now-Cardinal Burke to be removed from all church offices, and to provide any information on abuse to victims who ask for it.

It says he used a strict standard for evaluating claims of abuse, which failed to remove many abusive priests from the church.
