City, county and school leaders part of shooting exercise
La Crosse police perform shooter training at Roosevelt
First they heard, “There’s an active shooter on the second floor of the school and he’s wearing a red shirt.”
Next, a series of gunshots.
City, county and school leaders all heard that warning Thursday while they were inside the closed Roosevelt Elementary School. No worries though. It was all a part of more active-shooter training, using employees of all three entities.
Training officers from the La Crosse Police Department led the exercises, which were designed to provide knowledge and experience that will instill confidence to respond to an active shooter attack, La Crosse police training Lieutenant Troy Nedegaard said. Three hands on stages went quite well Thursday, he added.
