What went wrong with Walker?

So just what happened to Scott Walker? And what is next for the state of Wisconsin? Governor Scott Walker’s meteoric rise to the top of the polls of presidential candidates was followed by a fall just as abrupt. Walker has suspended his campaign for president, and now comes limping back home to Wisconsin as damaged goods. It is hard to say why Walker fell from near the top of the polls to less than one percent in a span of weeks. Money is one factor, according to insiders. He just couldn’t keep funding all those advisers and campaign managers in all those states with money drying up as his poll numbers sank. Walker also did little in the two Republican debates to stand out, and he had more than his share of stumbles. Perhaps the biggest issue dooming his campaign was Donald Trump. Trump remains the darling among the remaining candidates. Walker tried to bill himself as a Washington outsider, but no one is more of an outsider than Trump. So Walker returns to Wisconsin, but it is not clear for how long. Many speculate he won’t run for a third term, and some suggest he won’t finish this one, perhaps settling for a cabinet position should a Republican win next November. Now Walker has work to do in his home state. His move to the right on issues like immigration, gay marriage and abortion while on the campaign trail may have left even some republicans wondering who the real Scott Walker is. Now that he is returning home, we will find out soon enough.
