Epic race will close Hixon for weekend

Hixon Forest in La Crosse will be overrun this weekend, or it may seem like it to those watching mountain bikers descend on the forest.

City recreation supervisor Jay Odegaard says expect to see up to 1,000 mountain bikers hitting the trails for the Hixon Forest Epic, which is part of the Wisconsin Off-Road Series Circuit.

Odegaard says, while there may be some damage to trails because of the race, the money raised from the event will more than pay for restoration.

Hixon forest will be closed through the weekend for Sunday’s mountain bike race.
