Bakalars Sausage to add more production

La Crosse company to acquire multiple types meats from Albert Lea plant

A new building a few years ago, Bakalars Sausage could now be adding more production to its La Crosse facility.

Bakalars has entered an agreement to acquire Schweigert brand hot dogs, Braunschweiger summer sausage and breaded chicken products from Cargill Turkey and Cooked Meats.

As a result of the acquisition, production is expected to be shifted from Cargill’s meat processing facility in Albert Lea, Minn., to the Bakalars plant in La Crosse.

The transaction is expected to be completed next month. Financial terms between Bakalars and the Cargill operation were not disclosed.
