Cause of La Crosse death being examined to see if heroin was reason

La Crosse County has had no heroin overdose deaths so far this year, which law enforcement and health professionals consider a welcome change.

But that period of no deaths may have come to an end. A medical examiner is determining whether a recent death in the county was caused by heroin.

Health educator Al Bliss says the county has made progress against heroin and opiates in the last two years, but thinks more can be learned from other Wisconsin counties.

Bliss is recruiting members of the local heroin task force to attend a statewide summit on heroin, scheduled for mid-October at the Dells.
