Frac sand mining debate getting out of hand in Houston County
Opponents want plan-commission chair banned,
while chair banned others at meeting Tuesday
The future of frac sand mining in Houston County is still a subject that can cause disruptions at public meetings.
There were some confrontations between the county planning commission and citizens during a fracking discussion Tuesday night.
Some opponents of the frac sand business wanted planning commission chairman Dan Griffin to excuse himself from the meeting, claiming that he’s biased in favor of mining. But Griffin actually had a couple of speakers removed from the meeting when they went off-topic.
The commission was reviewing language of a new proposal to ban frac sand mining in the county. A previous ban was defeated by the full Houston County Board back in March.
