Kind introduces bill to help Wisconsin VAs
Comes after Tomah VA saw staff shortages and closures
Congressman Ron Kind has introduced legislation to assist the Department of Veterans Affairs in recruiting talented doctors to Wisconsin VA facilities.
This, after the Tomah VA eliminated overnight hours for its urgent care clinic amid staffing shortages and, last month, stopped admitting new patients for its 11-bed inpatient psychiatric unit, which temporarily closed.
The bill designates the Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities as Health Professional Shortage Areas. By making this designation, it allows these sites to compete for National Health Service Corps fellows.
