La Crosse City council unanimously approves downtown TIF
Critics fear projects could total $190 million
No opposition among city council members for creation of a new TIF district in downtown La Crosse.
The full council on Tuesday night unanimously approved the 17th such special taxing district for the city.
The TIF includes much of the downtown area between Sixth Street and the Mississippi River.
Project list for the new TIF arrangement includes, among many others, improvements for the La Crosse Center, a new bandshell for Riverside Park and a $14 million parking ramp for the Lot C project.
Critics of the new TIF district warn of excess in plans to tackle projects that could eventually reach a total of around $190 million.
