Trees being lined with purple ribbons today
New Horizons recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness month
Purple ribbons tied around trees line Main Street in La Crosse today.
They were put there by the New Horizons Shelter, recognizing that today begins Domestic Violence Awareness month.
Domestic violence against women especially appears to be ever increasing, says New Horizons executive director, Ann Kappauf. There was a time not that long ago that 1-in-4 women were thought to be victims of domestic violence, she added. Now that ratio is more like 1-in-3.
Kappauf says the number of domestic violence victims her organization serves and the number of nights they provide shelter have both increased dramatically.
