Republicans even more critical of the marketplace

The reaction by Minnesota republicans has been enormously critical after new insurance rates for MNSure were announced this week.

Preston republican state rep Greg Davids is among the many critics. He was “just horrified” to learn of the new rates that those signing up for insurance under MNSure will face.

Minnesotans buying health coverage through MNsure will pay between 14 percent and 49 percent more on average next year, according to new rates released on Thursday.

An indictment, Davids says, of the entire Affordable Care Act. Only a matter of time, he added, until the whole system crumbles under its own questionable financial footings.

Most companies have proposed increases of more than 20 percent. Blue Cross Blue Shield, the largest insurer in the individual market, has asked for a hike of more than 50 percent. Open enrollment for MNSure begins on November 1.
