Evacuation plans for when crude-oil trains derail wouldn’t be, but La Crosse County emergency coordinator Keith Butler’s seminars the last few weeks on that subject were a must.
Butler says more than half of La Crosse’s population would be within a danger zone near the BNSF tracks, and it would be hard for many to get to certain escape routes.
Butler told the county judiciary committee that it would be easier for people to take roads leading west out of La Crosse, if they had to evacuate. To the east of La Crosse, emergency services might be miles away.
