Work to continue on La Crosse-Hixon trails connection
Cost likely to go beyond $125,000
Work will likely continue into spring on a major trail connection for the city of La Crosse.
For the first time, there will be a connect between Hixon Forest and the rest of the city trails.
“Our goal is to make access, convenient and easy and safe,” La Crosse park and rec boss Steve Carlyon said.
To do that, the city has had to get a little creative because of the double railroad tracks that lie between Hixon Forest and the rest of the city.
The work includes, among other things, a land swap with a private-property owner and a big fence to keep hikers from getting nailed by golf balls from the Forest Hills driving range.
Total trail access cost is likely to go well beyond the $125,000 allotted for the project.
