The $193,000 updates to
council chambers have been voted down

There were some big plans for city council chambers renovation in La Crosse city hall. They’re not happening for now. 

Thursday, the city council has voted down spending $193,000 on fixing up the meeting space. Some of that money would have gone to simply turning the council members’ chairs around to face the audience and decreasing the number of council seats to 13.

But much of the rest was earmarked toward design work and beginning the process of getting rid of the asbestos in the ceiling above where the audience sits. Apparently there’s no danger to the public by simply leaving the asbestos insulation in place.
