Leachate coming from Vernon landfill

A little extra polluted water is coming to La Crosse County.

The county fill will accept some leachate from the Vernon County landfill.

Leachate is water that seeps through the landfill. The leachate will get sent to an Onalaska lift station and then on to the La Crosse sewage treatment plant.

It’s a very small amount though, says Dale Hexom, the director of public works. A couple hundred gallons an hour. Insignificant compared to the ten millions gallons per day handled by the plant on Isle la Plume.
