Investigation is underway to determine if an employee rigged drawings

The Wisconsin Lottery says it’s done commenting for now on a pending investigation into whether lottery drawings were rigged in the state in recent years.

A Department of Revenue representative said Monday, it’s staying quiet on allegations of cheating for now. 

That, in order to not interfere with the investigation into one particular drawing in 2007, which may have been rigged by a software engineer who’s accused of a scheme to defraud lotteries in Iowa, Colorado and Wisconsin. 

It says 52-year-old fraudster Edward Tipton may have used his position as a multi-state lottery employee to jimmy the drawing in 2007 that led to a payout of $783,257 to one of Tipton’s friends.

The integrity of drawing machines currently used in the lottery, according to director Mike Edmonds, is not in question.
