City to consider request to honor those who died in Korean War
Local war veteran group wants small plaque in Riverside
and is willing to do all the work to put it there
A shrinking number of war vets in La Crosse are looking to finally get some recognition for their fallen comrades.
Louis Ferris is vice president of the local Korean War Veterans of America organization. He’s pushing to put a small memorial plaque in Riverside Park for those who died in Korea. And he means small.
A couple of feet per side at the most on a plaque that will be situated against the Riverside Park cannon.
“We feel we’re the lucky ones,” Ferris said. “We came back,” and the plaque is just something small that will recognize those vets who did not, he added.
Ferris says he’ll do all of the fundraising for the plaque and just wants permission from the city to put it in the park. The park board considers the request at a meeting tonight.
