Walker has over $160,000 in bills after presidential run
Both his sons dropped out of college and
were paid $1,500 a month to campaign
MADISON, Wis. — One of Gov. Scott Walker’s unpaid presidential campaign bills is a $10,741 rental fee for the Waukesha County Expo Center where he launched his run for the White House in July.
The expense is among about $161,000 Walker lists in a Thursday filing with the Federal Election Commission.
Walker also reports owing about $76,000 for online advertising, $10,000 for communications consulting and $44,000 for event staging costs.
Walker spokesman Tom Evenson says Walker has paid all the travel costs incurred by his taxpayer-funded security detail that the state had billed. Walker’s administration said last week that groups connected with Walker had paid about $58,000 of $125,000 in security expenses.
Walker raised about $7.4 million in his short-lived campaign for president, and spent about $6.4 million before dropping out after 71 days in the race.
He had less than $1 million cash on hand after leaving the race on Sept. 20.
During his campaign, part of Walker’s staff included both his sons, who were paid $1,500 a month to campaign for dad.
Both had taken the semester off from college to hit the campaign trail with their dad.
The report shows his son Alex Walker was paid $4,819 between June 30 and September and Matt Walker was paid $4,824.
