Election laws need change, but not overhauling GAB, says village admin.
Same day registration, voter ID
make more sense to change
Maybe there are a few changes needed to election laws in Wisconsin.
West Salem village administrator Theresa Schnitzler can think of a couple that voters talk to her about. Changes involving same day registration, absentee ballots, that kind of thing.
But the republican plan to dismantle the nonpartisan Government Accountability Board and replace it with two partisan commissions is not getting much play in the West Salem village hall.
“Nobody’s come to me and said, ‘Oh my gosh, you need to do something!’” said Schnitzler, who believes the oversight of elections should remain nonpartisan in Wisconsin.
Days after the controversial proposal was introduced, republican leadership is pushing through an assembly vote on overhauling the Government Accountability Board today.
