Hunger Task Force director grateful for students’ ambition
Logan student plans fencing project, while
others built wash stations for donation
Shelly Fortner didn’t exactly win the lottery.
The executive director of the Hunger Task Force in La Crosse, however, does feel pretty lucky after a couple of projects undertaken by high school students this year to improve the Community Garden on the northside.
The latest is a planned fencing project for the Children’s Educational Area. An Eagle Scout project by Logan High School senior Nathan Baker.
Just last week, Logan students donated to the Hunger Task Force two vegetable washing stations they built. City hall will have to approve the new fence project.
“You know, these are big things for us,” Fortner said, “because, being a non-profit, these are just a couple of things that make our program great that we may not be able to do on our own.”
The fence project still needs approval by La Crosse city hall in order to abide by city fence ordinances.
