Tischer says once they’re in, they’ll be put to use ASAP

La Crosse police chief Ron Tischer says he’s getting kind of tired of waiting for the body cameras the department ordered to show up. 

The first four $1,500 cameras were supposed to be in by March.

Once the cameras do finally make it to La Crosse, Tischer says they won’t waste any time putting them to work.

They’ll figure out exactly how to use them, and “if there’s something going on and you’re dealing with something, you’re camera needs to be on,” Tischer said.

Tischer says, although the cameras will be useful in providing evidence for police, he warns that they will also come with limitations inherent to all technology.

For instance, sometimes they just may not work. And, when they are working normally, they may not capture an entire interaction.

Tischer says, the cameras will never be used during interviews of sexual assault victims and other similar situations.
