Third Street to shut down next week for week

Closure due to construction to Lot C project

One of the key traffic arteries through La Crosse could be closed most of next week.

Third Street between La Crosse and State streets will be shut down in order to do work on the Lot C project downtown.

Detour routes will be posted and the city traffic engineer is recommending alternative ways to get in and out of town, like Lang Drive and Highway 16.

The longest delays are expected to be during peak traffic times in the morning.

Contractors will hook up laterals to the sewer line that runs down the middle of Third and will have to dig deep into both lanes of the street.

It’s the same project that was planned for the Saturday of Oktoberfest before police raised objections to the idea of digging giant holes in Third while tens of thousands of drunk people were milling about downtown.
