WIAA FB Playoffs: Logan takes care of business
Holmen coach Steve King’s career comes to close
The Wisconsin high school football playoffs got underway Friday night. A lot of area teams came in as underdogs, in terms of seeding, anyway. And, a lot of area teams saw their seasons end.
Logan, however, took care of business in Division 3. The Rangers started a little slow – basically given a safety a few minutes into the game for the only scoring in the first quarter.
After that, however, Logan opened it up, taking down Madison Edgewood and its speedy quarterback 36-6 at Swanson Field. Second-seeded Logan (8-2) will play host No. 3 Reedsburg (7-3) Friday.
Trey Davis was partially responsible for the three-touchdown second quarter that blew the game open. The quarterback ran one in from a yard out, before finding Jack Hinton and Nathan Baker on back-to-back touchdown passes of 27 and 37 yards, respectively.
The Rangers didn’t necessarily stop Edgewood’s 5-foot-9, 175-pound speedster quarterback, Jake Dunn. The senior, who came in with over 1,600 yards rushing and 25 touchdowns, had another 201 yards, but it took 31 carries to get there. And he didn’t score. He did throw a TD pass, but also threw two interceptions.
DIVISION 2
DEFOREST 48, HOLMEN 6
Jadon Sackman couldn’t be stopped for fifth-seeded DeForest (7-3). The running back rushed 28 times for 215 yards and scored five touchdowns, including a 57-yarder on the first possession.
Fourth-seeded Holmen (7-3) was down 21-6 in the first quarter and 34-0 at halftime in coach Steve King’s final game as coach.
